LCSW Supervision FAQs

  • The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Board requires a total of 3000 social work hours worked over a period of no fewer than 24 months, with a minimum of 4 work hours of supervision every month. A minimum of 4 hours per week must be considered “clinical” social work.

  • The board considers “clinical” social work to be any job position where the social worker assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental health disorders. If a social worker does not have this in their job description, then they may earn a minimum of 4 hours weekly of this type of social work through other means such as a secondary job or volunteer hours.

  • No, all LMSWs under my supervision earn their hours at workplaces such as agencies, hospitals, treatment facilities, schools, or other settings. The supervision services I provide are considered outside clinical supervision for the purposes of LCSW licensure which is separate from a social worker having an administrative supervisor at their workplace.

  • The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) requires supervisees and supervisors to complete various forms to mark the beginning of clinical supervision plan, which can be found here. BHEC requires supervisees to maintain documentation of all supervision hours earned, which will be documented in a form to be provided by me. Supervisees must also provide a job description for any social work position held as well as a letter on agency letterhead from an administrative supervisor noting the supervisee may seek outside clinical supervision. All documentation will be submitted at the end of the supervision time prior to the LCSW being issued.

  • Group size is capped at 6 supervisees, and since the group is considered “open” new supervisees can start at any time if space is available. Supervisees finish their hours and pass their LCSW exam on a rolling basis, so feel free to reach out to inquire about availability!

  • Topics in supervision include case consultation, ethical decision making and dilemmas, DSM-V-TR diagnosis, treatment modalities, and practice LCSW exam questions. This is not an exhaustive list, and any topics supervisees may need to discuss are welcome!

EMDR Consultation FAQs

  • CITs can provide up to 15 of the total 20 hours of consultation required to clinicians working towards their own EMDR certification.

  • EMDRIA requirements stipulate that a clinician must have 20 total hours of EMDR consultation. A minimum of 10 hours must be individual consultation hours.

  • CITs can provide high quality consultation at lower rates as they work towards their own full consultant status! CITs are fully EMDR Certified by EMDRIA, and they work with an EMDR Consultant to ensure that consultation is up to EMDRIA standards. I work with EMDR Consultant and Trainer Kelly Slaven, LCSW-S as I work to incorporate my skills of consultation and EMDR.

“I cannot say enough about how grateful I am for Emily. Her constant encouragement is incomparable! I have learned so much from her guidance, and appreciate her knowledge of the mental health field. She is a true example of leadership and dependability.”
